Rapid Rules
Setup
- Pull out river tiles (different back colors) from the rest of the tiles
- Shuffle other tiles and place face-down into draw piles
- Players each get 8 followers of their color. Seven are kept with the player and one is placed on the scoreboard on 0
General Play
- Players take turns building the river, laying one tile at a time.
- The river should start and end with the lake tiles
- If you have a first edition, there will be no river and instead there is a single starting tile
- After the river is complete, each player will complete steps 3 - 6 on their turn
- Draw a new land tile and place it in a way that matches and connects with existing tiles
- If a player has followers, they may place one on the tile in a city, on a road, in the field, or on the monestairy if there are no followers already on that part
- All players receive points for any roads, cities, or monasteries completed on this turn
- Return followers from completed areas to each player's supply
- Moving clockwise, the next player takes their turn.
- Players repeat steps 3-7 until all tiles are placed.
In-Game Scoring
Players keep track of their score by moving their follower around the scorecard.
- Roads are completed when the ends are connected to a crossroad, city, monastery, or the road loops.
- Players with a follower on the road get 1 point per tile used
- Cities are completed when walls completely surround it.
- Players with a follower in the city get 2 points per tile, and an additional 2 points for any shields in the city.
- Monasteries are completed when it is surrounded by tiles.
- Players with a follower on the completed monastery get 9 points
Winning and Losing
- Players score all incomplete cities, roads, and monasteries by getting 1 point per tile that's part of a group they have a follower on
- Shields get an additional point
- Players get 3 points per city bordering farms / fields they have a follower on
- The player with the most points wins
